Pairing: Roxas X OC
Summary: These two have been at each other's throats for years. Never have they ever gotten along and they never plan to. But when the Halloween Dance comes around and they mysteriously meet, it reveals a surprising secret between the two. It leaves one of them wondering, "How did this war between us even start?"
Ever since high school started, we’ve never liked each other. Actually... we’ve always hated each other... a lot. We never agreed on anything and she and her brother Seifer would always pick on me and my friends. They’re suppose to be the school’s disciplinary committee and yes, they are good at it, yet they always target us! We get blamed for everything we didn’t do! Only us! And I have no idea why...
“Yo, Roxas!” he heard as his friend Hayner called. “Stop dazing out! We got a group to jump!” He nodded as he followed him with their other two friends, Pence and Olette. They looked around the corner of one of the school classrooms and spotted three familiar figures.
“Rai, Fuu, and Vivi are there.” Roxas said. “But where’s Seifer and--”
“Peek-a-boo.” they heard behind them as they were hit out into the open, right in front of Rai, Fuu, and Vivi. Roxas groaned as he sat up, “Ah... crap. That hurt...”
“Nice hit, Kayl.” Seifer chuckled as he looked down on them. She scoffed, “Seriously? That was just a slap on the wrist. These dweebs wouldn’t be able to handle my real hits.” Roxas growled in response as she stood over him. Her long blonde hair was tied up in side pigtails as usual, her usual cardigan rest over a pastel tanktop. She wore denim short shorts and gladiator sandals as she inched closer, soon bending over him, her entrancing blue eyes glaring at him.
Kaylie, Seifer’s younger sister, but definitely more evil than him because she actually has a brain and puts it to use. She’s a lot meaner too... at least to me. If I’m not around she doesn’t really bother my friends... or anyone else for that matter. Well, except Olette. We’re the only exceptions... and at the times Hayner hits on her. Other than that, I’ve never seen her mean to any other student...
“So losers...” she smirked at Roxas. “I see you’re already dressed in your Halloween outfits. Definitely the most hideous creatures I’ve seen. You’ll so have a chance to win the costume contest!” Her gang chuckled obnoxiously as he glared in response, but stayed quiet. The late bell soon rang as Seifer cut in, “Tsk Tsk. You’re all late for class? Looks like you’re all staying for detention after school.” He tossed them detention slips as they walked away laughing.
“Urgh!” Hayner growled. “That stupid Seifer! Think he so high and mighty! He pisses me off so much!” Roxas sighed, “I know... but we have to get to class. Before we get scolded for being even more late.” They quickly rushed to class, Hayner and Roxas soon entering... sadly, with Kaylie. Unlike the rest of the disciplinary committee, she is a third year just like Roxas and his friends. So as great as it will be next year when Seifer and his goons are gone, he’ll still have to put up with her.
“Late as usual, dweeb?” she smiled innocently at him. “What happened this time? Couldn’t tell right from left and ended up in the girls bathroom?” He ignored her, taking his seat as their teacher began class.

“Yuffie!” Kaylie groaned as she took a seat next to her best friend during study period. “I need help! I don’t know what to be for the halloween dance tonight!” Yuffie pondered it, “Aren’t you DJ-ing tonight?”
“Hell yeah!” she lit up. “But don’t tell anyone! It’s suppose to be a surprise!”
“Okay, relax.” she responded. “Won’t it be hard to DJ if you’re in a costume?” She replied, “It doesn’t need to be some thick kind of costume. It could be something simple... like a ninja or a princess- I’m not dressing up as a princess!”
“Heh, alright. How about we hit the mall after school and I help you find something?” she offered as she nodded happily, “Sounds great! Thanks, Fi.”
“Don’t mention it, Kay.”
~*~ Later that day~*~
“You can’t be serious?!” Kay yelled at her brother as they argued in their living room. He glared, “Oh, I am serious Kayl! You are not going to the dance tonight.”
“And why not?! I’ve been looking forward to this dance since school started and I already bought my ticket!” she explained. He responded, “Well then, sell it. This place is a dump! It’s not presentable for an afterparty!”
“All this shit is your stuff! Clean it yourself!”
“Who’s the guardian here? That’s right, me. So you have to do what I say and I say you aren’t going to the dance and you’re staying here to clean up!” he told her. She argued, “The only clean room is mine! How the hell do you expect to clean this entire house in a few hours?!”
“That’s your problem. Not mine.” he said heading for the door.
“Seifer--”
“I’m going to Rai’s to get our costumes. I swear if I see you at the party or this house is less than spotless, you’ll get it. Dance ends around 11 so I’ll be here by 11:15. Got it?!”
“Whatever...” she groaned as he left the house. She looked around and in two hours she sighed in exhaustion, “Damn it! It looks like I haven’t cleaned a single thing! This is gonna take days!” The doorbell soon rang as she answered it.
“Kayl! We only have an hour to get ready?! What are you still doing in regular clothes?!” she gave her a look. She pushed through her, entering the house as she said, “Come on. We gotta get ready!”
“Unfortunately, Seifer’s being an ass. He decided to host the afterparty and left me to take care of all this shit. So I can’t go to the dance...”
“What the hell?! What’s his problem?” she pouted. “But, Kay you have to go! We won’t have a DJ!” She shrugged, “Leon’s gonna have to take over like usual.”
“No!” she told her. “Kay, he may be your partner but this was your chance to shine!” She sighed, pulling out a necklace hiding under her shirt. She began fidgeting with the necklace, “It’s ok, Fi. I ‘m sure I’ll have another go... eventually.” She responded, “You’re fidgeting with your necklace...”
“So...”
“You always do that when you say the exact opposite of how you’re feeling!” she pointed out as Kaylie continued, “No, I don’t...” She looked at her, still fidgeting as she told her, “Then why are you still doing it?”
“Fine!” she stopped playing with it. “I really did want to perform!”
“Then let’s go!”
“What am I gonna do about this?” she motioned to the messy house.
“... I got an idea.” she lit up and in fifteen minutes their college friends, Cloud, TIfa, and Aerith came in. Kay beamed, hugging them, “Guys! I’ve missed you! How’ve you been?! It’s been like almost half a year!”
“Haha, we’ve been good, Kay.” Aerith laughed returning the hug as Tifa beamed, “And of course we missed you too! You should seriously visit our campus more often!”
“So what’s this big emergency?” Cloud asked. Kay looked around, “You’re in it.” Yuffie began to explain as he gave her a look, “Seriously, Yuffie? This is not-”
“We’ll help.” Aerith smiled as Kay hugged her happily, “Oh, thank you. Thank you! Thank you!”
“Aerith...” Cloud gave her a look as she answered, “This is her big opportunity to do something she loves. It’s one job she’s asking us for.”
“More like the impossible.” he looked around at the house. Kay pleaded, “Please Cloud! I’ll owe you big time! I swear! Anything you need I will do it!” He sighed, “Fine. Go on.”
“Yes! Thanks Cloud! You’re the best!” she hugged him. “Let’s get ready at your place, Yuffie!” She grabbed all her stuff as Tifa waved them off, “Have fun! We’ll be sure to get this all done as soon as possible!”
“One more problem Yuffie...” Kay said as the two walked to her place. “My costume won’t make me look any different. Seifer will easily recognize me.” She winked, “Just leave it to me, Kay. I’ll take care of everything.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Roxas!” He heard as he entered the school gym where the dance was being held. He was approached by a princess, a zombie, and a ghost as Hayner, the zombie beamed, “Nice costume, Rox! Make it yourself?”
“Nah. I’m not this good.” he smiled in response as Olette, the princess, ruffled his hair, “Aw, you even dyed your hair to match your costume! You look like a real vampire!”
“And very mysterious. We almost didn’t recognize you.” Pence, the ghost, told him as he laughed, “What gave me away?”
“Only you would be able to down a sea salt ice cream that fast.” Hayner pointed at the leftover popsicle stick in his hand.
“Well that’s true. I just love these things.” he beamed.
“Shit. You’re even wearing red eye contacts.” Pence said noticing. “Scared the crap out of me.” He laughed again, “Yeah, it came with the set and I thought, why not?”
“Hey everybody!” they soon heard as the DJ Leon called from the stage. “Are you all ready to party tonight?!” Cheers went all around as he began playing a few popular tunes.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Are you sure he won’t recognize me?” Kay asked worried. Yuffie nodded, rocking her witch costume, “Relax. You look much older and I don’t see why you don’t let your hair down more often. It’s so much prettier.”
“Thanks.” she said as she continued fidgeting with her necklace as they soon stood outside the gym. Yuffie smiled, “You fidget with that thing when you’re nervous too.” She didn’t respond as Yuffie reached out for it and Kay allowed her hold it. She stared at the silver music note pendant, “It’s pretty special to you... isn’t it?” She nodded, “Yeah... it is. It was given to me by someone special....”
“Oh, and why is this the first time I hear of this special someone?” she teased as Kay shook her head. “Was... a special friend. We don’t talk anymore....” Yuffie wondered, “Well who was--” She interrupted as Kay said, “Wait... hang on.” They listened as they heard Leon pause the music.
“My partner Kaylie couldn’t make it sadly.” he said, giving subtle glares at Seifer. “Thanks to a certain older brother...” A few boos went around as he shouted, “Shut up and get on with it!” He continued, “But please give a warm welcome to her substitute. My sexy and devilish friend, Star!” Kaylie ran in and headed straight for the stage as cheers erupted all around her. The thrill filled her body as she placed her headset on, standing in front of the turntables, and yelled, “Hey Twilight High! Are you all ready to jam?!” Everyone screamed in excitement as she began playing jams, leading everyone to dance around the dance floor. “Happy Halloween everyone!!
~
“Damn... that Star sure knows how to pump up a party.” Olette beamed as the four hung out by the snacks. Hayner nodded, “Not to mention how hot she is! Man, if only I could get a girl like that! She’s got the whole package, don’t you think Roxas?”
“I’ll admit, she definitely caught my eyes.” he said still watching her as she played multiple tunes and mixing a bunch of them together. Her wavy blonde hair bounce as she bobbed her head to the music, her brown eyes gleaming with excitement. The happy smile on her face seemed to be contagious as one formed on his face.
“Heh, dweebs like you don’t have a chance with a girl like her.” they heard as I groaned. Seifer smirked, “And unlike you, I’d definitely attract her.” He left us, soon trying to find a spot in her view and awaited her to take a break.
~
“Leon!” Kaylie called as he came over two hours later. “I’m gonna take a break.” He nodded and took over as he said, “By the way... thanks for coming Kay. Couldn’t have lasted without you.”
“Don’t mention it. I had fun.” she smiled. She looked at her watch, “Crap. Actually, can you take over for the last half hour. I need to take off before-”
“I got it. Don’t worry.” he beamed. “You just enjoy the dance.”
“Thanks. I will.” she said soon catching up with Yuffie. She complemented her, “Yuffie, you are amazing! No one recognizes me at all!”
“Of course not.” she beamed. “No one has ever seen you with your hair down, let alone with my awesome make-up skills! But I think the brown contacts is the biggest and most subtle change.” Suddenly the smile vanished as she whispered in an urgent, “Seifer alert! Seifer alert!”
“W-What?! What do I do?!” she panicked soon grasping her necklace, twiddling with it. Yuffie rushed off, “I’ll think of something, just don’t give yourself away!”
“Obviously!” she groaned as she left her and Seifer smirked, “Hey.”
“Um, hi.” she said softly. He asked, “Never seen you around before... You attend Twilight High?”
“N-no. I don’t...”
“That’s too bad. The school could use a girl as good looking as you.” he flirted. Kay gave Yuffie a look, who was standing not too far behind Seifer trying to find someway to get him away from her.
“I’m sorry.. I’m not interested-” she tried to walk away as he blocked her. “Come on, you don’t even know me. Give me a chance.” He inched closer to her as she flinched, unsure of what to do.
~
“Hey, Star’s not on stage anymore.” Hayner pointed out as Olette looked around, “She’s probably on a break. Why do you wanna flirt with her?” He responded, “You got a problem with that?” They fought as Pence watched, eating a few snacks. Roxas took a glance around the gym, when his eyes stopped as he locked onto Star, being pinned up against the wall by Seifer.
“Why the hell do you keep fidgeting with this thing?” Seifer glared soon grabbing the necklace and pulling it off her neck. A hurt expression grew on her face as she reached for it, “Hey! Give it back!” However he was far too tall, making it difficult for her to reach it. He smirked, “Maybe after a date-” He was suddenly knocked down to the ground as Roxas took the necklace from him, “She asked for it back.” Seifer glared as he got up, “Watch it, dweeb! I’m the leader of the disciplinary committee! I’ll write you up for this!”
“Hey, Seifer!” Yuffie soon came over glaring. “I gotta few punches with your name on it! You screwed up Kaylie’s big night, asshole!” As she began scolding him, Kaylie grabbed his wrist, “Come on.”
“Ah--” he was suddenly pulled away as they soon sat down on a bench outside of the gym. He then handed her the necklace, “Ah, here. I believe this is yours.”
“Thanks... I owe you big time.” She smiled as she grasped it. Their eyes locked for a moment, as a small blushed appeared on Roxas’s face. He asked, “Is it broken?” She sighed, “Y-yeah. He practically tore it off my neck.”
“Let me help you with it.” he said as she handed it back to him. He looked at the familiar music note pendant but shrugged it off. He adjusted it and soon, wrapped it on her neck. “Well, that’s the best I can do. It’ll hold until you get home to use proper tools on it.”
“Thanks again.” she smiled again as a blush formed again on his face. She giggled, “Haha, you’re kinda cute when you blush...” He was silent as she continued, “Hehe, sorry. I guess it clashes with the whole mysterious powerful vampire look. It suits you really nicely.”
“T-Thanks.” he responded, turning away. She tried to face him, beaming, “Red contacts? Don’t take this the wrong way, but it looks extremely hot on you.”
“Heh, are you... flirting with me?” he gave a soft laugh as she giggled, “It was a compliment. Not flirting. And to continue what I was saying... it really suits you. Makes you look really mysterious. A hot kind of mysterious.”
“... so you’re into mysterious hot vampires?” he questioned. “Good luck finding one of those on any other day of the year.” She laughed, “Heh, so now you know my guy type... I don’t think sweaty devil girls are your type. Why are you still out here with me? Don’t you have a date inside waiting for you?”
“Nah, I’m not. I’m single.”
“What? A hot vampire like you. I’d think all the girl would be all over you.” she pointed out as he scoffed, “Nah, I’m a nobody around here. Barely anyone knows me.”
“Why is that?”
“I’m not exactly the disciplinary committee’s favorite person. And since they rule the school... that makes me the bottom of the school hierarchy.” he sighed as she rolled her eyes, “Then everyone would be at the bottom of the hierarchy. The disciplinary committee hates everyone who isn’t them. The power just gets to their head. Especially that Seifer.”
“I know what you mean...” he sighed. “... DId I hear you right earlier? You don’t go to Twilight High? You seem to know a lot that goes around it.”
“Well, I got a few friends there.” she stated. “They talk to me a lot about what goes on. Drama just never seems to end there.” He nodded, “Tell me about it... when you’re a target of those guys, things are never easy....”
“... you really got it out for them, huh?”
“They target me and my friends. Of course I do.” he stated.
“They target everyone. What makes you any different?” she asked as he shrugged, “That’s actually really true.” They sat in a moment of silence as he asked, “You... know alot about them... don’t you?”
“I-I told you... I know people at the school. Some of them know the disciplinary committee.” she tried to cover up as she then said, “Well as unpopular as you claim to be, no one comes to dance as big as this alone.”
“Yeah, I came with my friends...”
“Got bored of them that fast?”
“Well what’s your excuse?” he questioned. She smiled, “Touche. Well, Leon’s busy and my other friend is distracting that flirtatious Seifer.”
“Well you gotta have more friends than that.” he pointed out. “You seem like the type of girl most guys would like.”
“Most guys? Not you?” she teased. “I still didn’t get to hear about your type.”
“Honestly girls like you....” he laughed as she responded, “Are you kidding me? What part of sweaty devilish girl attracts you?”
“Well, after talking to you for the last almost fifteen minutes, you don’t seem that devilish. That costume, as hot as it may look on you, is very misleading.” he pointed out. “And... it was actually your smile that caught my attention. You just seemed... so happy Dj-ing. It made me really happy to see that. Almost a feeling of nostalgia... filled me. I dunno. It... It made the night so much better.” A slight blush grew on her too as she fidgeted with her necklace. “W-Wow, you really know how to talk a girl up...”
“Heh, I’m not the only one who looks cute when blushing...” he complimented as stayed silent, blushing a little more as she continued playing with it. He decided to ask, “So, that necklace must be pretty special to you...”
“It is...” she smiled a bit. “I’ve had it since I was seven.”
“Wow... long time. Birthday gift?”
“Yeah actually. It was from a really close friend of mine.” she explained. He stated, “Ah, lemme guess. He’s your boyfriend now.” She scoffed, “Honestly sometimes I wish it were like that... we lost touch a few years ago.”
“What happened?”
“Things changed... drama came about and well... we just haven’t talked in a long time.” she sighed. “I’ll be honest. Sometimes I miss him, but then I think... maybe it was for the best. I’ve moved on and I’m sure he has too.” She soon stood up, “Anyways, I’ve been at the dance for the past two hours and I haven’t gotten one dance in.”
“Well, if you don’t mind, I’d be happy to share a dance with you.” he smiled getting up as they could hear slow music playing from the gym.
“Well, I’m sure being a vampire you have decades of experience.” she smiled as she gave a little curtsy. “Do take it easy on me...”
“I’m sure you’ll do fine.” He said taking her hand and wrapping his other around her waist as her free hand rested on his shoulder. They slowly moved to the music, just relaxing in each others arms as she giggled softly, “I was definitely right... You are indeed an amazing dancer.”
“Only because I have a great partner...” he gave a soft smile, whispering in her ear. He soon pulled away a bit, their lips barely apart as she said, “I... I never got your name...”
“Heh... I have you at a disadvantage... I know yours but you don’t know mine?” he scoffed.
“Are you gonna tell me or not?” she gave him a soft look.
“Well that depends...” he said quietly, soon taking a glance at her lips. “A-Are you gonna kiss me?” A red blush appeared on her face as the two inched closer as their eyes closed. Just as they could feel each other’s breath on their lips, a loud shout caught them off guard, “STAR!!” She pulled away from him, “Fi, of all times to-”
“It’s 11! We gotta go!” she shouted.
“Shit!” she panicked, now realizing the music had ended and people were leaving. She turned to the vampire, “I’m so sorry. I really have to run!” Before she could go, he grasped her hand, “W-Wait. Where are you going?!”
“I’m super sorry.” she pulled her hand free. “I really need to go!” She began to run with her friend, “But thanks so much! You made my night!” He sighed watching her go as he noticed something nearby. He picked it up, “Wait! Star!” He quickly rushed after, but as he reached the school gates, she was already long gone.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Made it!” Kay screamed as she ran into the house at 11:12 with Yuffie. Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith sat in the super clean living room, watching some TV as Kay beamed, “Whoa! You guys performed a miracle! It’s clean in here! Thanks so much!”
“You owe us big time kid.” Tifa smiled as she nodded. Yuffie then said, “Seifer’s gonna be back any minute, so we should get going.” She turned to Kay, “Want me to come to his afterparty?”
“Nah, I’m probably just gonna knock out after I show--” she stopped as she heard a car pull up into the driveway. “Shit! You guys go out the back door! I gotta jump in the shower!” They nodded and quickly rushed out as she ran upstairs, grabbed her robe and towel and jumped into the restroom. She quickly pulled out her contacts, began washing her make-up off, and turned on the shower, waiting for it to get warm. Just as she reached for her necklace...
“Oh no!” she looked around the floor. “Where is it?! Where is it?!” She suddenly heard a loud bang on the door, “Kayl! Hey, great job on the house. It’s spotless. Glad to see you can follow orders.”
“Whatever Seifer....” she responded. “Cleaning up all your filth was the worst thing I’ve ever had to do. Washing off that filth is gonna take hours.”
“Well, get done soon! I need you serving snacks!” he said. “People are gonna be here in a few-”
“Hell no!” she shouted. “I already cleaned up all your shit! I’m gonna take a shower as long as I want and then I’m relaxing in my room!”
“Kay-” she removed her clothes, hiding it under the sink as she jumped in the shower, ignoring his shouts. She thought to herself, “Could... he have it? Damn it... I don’t even know who he is...” She sighed, “I have got to find out who he is...”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Roxas, where’ve you been dude?!” Hayner said as his approached him, sitting at a table in the school quad. He smiled, “Sorry... were you guys looking for me?”
“Hell yeah!” he stated. “I wanted help looking for Star! I didn’t even get to talk to her! Urgh, such a drag!” He sighed, “Well, I did.”
“What?! Man, you sure move fast!” he said. “I see how it is! Sweep her up for yourself...”
“Come on... It’s not like that.” he gave a soft laugh as Hayner asked, “So did you get her digits?” He shook his head, “No... sadly, but she did say I made her night.”
“Well that’s great!” he beamed as he noticed Roxas quietly fidgeting with something. “Is that hers?”
“Yeah. She rushed off and I guess she didn’t notice it fall.” he said, staring at her special necklace. He fiddled with the pendant, a small feeling of nostalgia filled him.
“Well, at least this means you’ll definitely see her again.” Hayner pointed out as he smiled, “Yeah. You’re right...”
“And you had better introduced me this time!” he said as Roxas laughed, “Alright. I will.”
“Good, now let’s go before Olette throws a fit about how long we’re taking.” he said as they headed off.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Yuffie, I don’t know how I’m gonna find it.” Kay sighed as the two walked through the school halls that monday morning. She patted her back, “Relax. Let’s just check the lost and found. Someone had to turn it in.” They sat in class. “I’ve been checking it every chance I get! They don’t have any necklaces! Damn it, how am I gonna find it?!”
“What’s up with you?” Hayner said as he walked in with Roxas. She glared, “Look, I’m in no mood to deal with you losers so back off.” Roxas glared in response, “Come on, Hayner. We’re just wasting time... We shouldn’t show concern for heartless people like her.” They headed to their seats as Yuffie stated, “Damn... did you feel that tension there? What’s with all the hatred between you guys?”
“That Hayner is always hitting on me... and lets just say there’s that rivalry they have with the disciplinary committee.” she said as Yuffie gave her a look, “Kay, you hate the disciplinary committee, just like everyone else. The only difference is, you’re on it. Why would you hate who they hate?”
“Because I have my own reason for not liking them... and that’s a reason only I need to know.” she said. Before Yuffie could argue, she told her, “Forget it... we need to think of another way to get my necklace back.”
“Why not make an announcement?” she said as Kay gave her a look, “Oh sure. Whoever found a necklace at the night of the dance please return it to Kaylie. My brother will find out for sure!”
“You make me sound stupid..” she gave her a look. “I’ll be your decoy. I’ll tell them I lost the necklace and get it back for you, ok?” She sighed, “I guess, but it could still get traced back to me...”
“Well I don’t see any other options...” she responded. “Hey, what about that guy you were with? Think he might have it?”
“I thought about it, but I have no idea who he is...” she answered as Yuffie said, “Well you guys were together for over half an hour. What do you know about him?”
“He’s super cute when he blushes.” she said as Yuffie gave her a look, saying sarcastically, “Really? Because that’s really gonna help narrow down all the guys in the school.” She gritted, “Come on, give me some actual physical appearance!”
“I can’t! He was completely covered in his costume. Even his eyes were red colored contacts. “ she sighed. “Well, he had dark hair... I dunno if it was a wig or something, but it looked pretty real. He was tall... a couple inches taller than me. And he had the cutest smile ever.” Yuffie sighed, “Then finding him will be alot tougher than I-”
“Ah! He said he’s not really popular... like the bottom of the hierarchy!”
“Well... that at least gives us a group to focus on, but there’s still alot of people considered unpopular.” Yuffie said. “And unless we go around looking at every smiling guy around, I honestly think we should try my plan. Look, I’ll go to the office and tell them I lost it at the dance, no biggie. I’ll totally cover for you.”
“Alright...” she sighed as class began.
