Sidenote: This is actually a song fic. I used Yamada Ryosuke (HSJ) solo Moonlight and I thought it went really well with this ^^
Summary: It's been too long. WAY too long and poor Mika is still suffering... Will anything... or anyone be able to help her through her trouble times and fix her broken heart?

“L!” she screamed as she shot up from bed. Sweat trickled down her face as she began breathing heavily. It's been the same every night since that day. The empty feeling within her chest, the restless nights, and the nightmares. Darkness surrounded her as she turned to her bedside, where a picture frame rested.

Alone in the darkness of sleep, I'm aiming for the light

You're smiling at me calling my name

'Mika..' she thought picking up the picture, remembering the way he said her name, as if he was caressing it. She smiled, while sniffling a bit, imagining him right in front of her. His bright smile, his dark spikey hair, his sweet scent, even the dark bags under his attractive eyes. She began recalling all the wondrous memories they shared. The day they first met, everyday they spent together, that nerve-wrecking moment when she asked him out, that romantic evening when he asked her to be his girlfriend, even the moment they shared their first kiss. All the great times she could think of, putting a small smile on her face, yet tears began to form.

if the moon disappears from the gap in the curtains

this one lonely heart on the bed will freeze

only my emotions will burn

She bursted as the tears fell from her face onto the picture of the two of them, having a delicious looking cake, their favorite dessert. “L..I miss you so much...” She tightly hugged it, releasing all her feeling into tears.

I'm unable to touch you, unable to do anything

Tonight I fall into my dreams alone again

You don't come smiling, you don't come to me in my dreams

Since that day... that day is what caused all her misery. All the pain and emptiness she has within her. Her lonely, dark dreams began... when she found out about L's death.

“Alright then. See you tonight.” Mika smiled as she spoke into her phone. “Don't overwork yourself.”

“I'll try my best. Love you.” L replied.

“Love you too.” she told him as they hung up. She left the bakery, carrying their favorite cake in a bag as she stared into the dark sky. She sighed, “looks like its gonna rain tonight...” She entered her apartment and prepared that nights dinner. She happily set the table and placed the cake in the center. The words 'Happy 3^rd anniversary.' Today, was the 3^rd year the two have been dating. She stared at the clock and thought, 'Another hour..' She then cleaned up around her place to pass the time.

“*sigh*...” she looked at the clock. “2 hours late... L, you said you wouldn't overwork yourself...” Then it was almost midnight as she grabbed her coat and an umbrella as she headed out the door, when her phone ran. “Hello?”

“Mika, it's Soichiro Yagami, I've been working with L, on the Kira case.” she heard. She responded, “Oh, yea. I remember. I'm heading over there right now... I'm guessing L's still working hard huh?”

“I'm really sorry to be the bearer of bad new Mika.” he said sadly as she began walking through the rain. “L... he's dead.” She froze as her umbrella fell from her grasp. The rain poured down on her as she heard him, “I'm really sorry, Mika... we had an ambulence come and he was taken to the hospital, but he died from a heart attack--” Hanging up quickly she rushed off to the hospital.

“L!” she screamed as she saw him. She stared at his lifeless body as tears streamed from her eyes. “No! L!!”

She missed the hugs they would always share, the kisses, holding each other's hand. She couldn't let him go. She always felt lonely now. She said between her cries, “Please L... you can't really be gone... please don't leave me...”

The light in my dreams, the sadness I'd forgotten

Even if I see you in town, you don't catch my eye

Whenever she was out, she'd always see him. She'd happily call to him, but it wasn't him. She could only just imagine it was. Pain filled within her chest whenever she saw anything that reminded her of him. People who looked like him, their favorite sweets shop, their favorite cake. It made her remember the happy times they shared, but gave her that empty feeling in her heart.

If I was told that I'd never see your smiling face again

I'd be happy if tomorrow never came

I'd want to hug you even if it was just in my dreams

Forever

She laid back down, staring at her plain ceiling, trying to get back to sleep.

'Mika..' she heard in her head. That's when she finally smile, as if moonlight filled all the darkness around her. L's figure stood in front of her, a bright smile upon his face. She hugged him happily, tears streaming down her face,“... I don't ever want to let you go again, L...”
