Pairing: Shino X OC (slight Kiba X OC)
Summary: The MVP for the school's volleyball team is the best! Nothing seems to get her out of her focus... except him. Every time she sees him, hears him, or even hears his name, she gets all klutzy and screws up. Will she be able to get out of this habit?
“So... we've got a dance coming up, huh?” Kiba stated. She nodded and said, “We're going together, right Shino...” He nodded slowly.
“She and Shino are going to the Homecoming dance together this Friday?!” Ten Ten and Temari said as Hinata told them. “That Ryu... breaking Kaya's heart like that... we won't forgive her...”
“Ow!” Ryu shouted as the volleyball hit her right in the back of her head. The ball was picked up as Temari said, “Whoops... our bad... so sorry...”
“...whatever...” Ryu glared. She went back to her solo practice as she stopped turned and hit the ball right back into their faces. “If you're gonna hit me... don't be cowards and attack from behind. Face me head on..” She walked away as they just glared.
“Can you believe her... she thinks she's so cool and calm and collected.” Ten Ten growled. “I just can't stand her!”
“Yea, some best friend she is... huh, Kaya...” Temari said. Kaya gave no response. The other two girls looked at her sadly as Temari growled again, “Ugh! I so wanna kill her!”
“Go ahead and try...” they heard Ryu say as she pass by them. “I guess you forgot I'm apart of the volleyball team. Once again, I repeat. If you've got a problem with me, then say it to my face.”
“Alright. We've got a problem with you!” Ten Ten got all up in her face. She glared, “Really... why is that?”
“After what you did to Kaya... who's supposed to be your best friend!” Temari stated.
“Hey, she didn't go for it, so I did. And that's her problem so don't you be getting into what's happening between me and Kaya.” she told them. Ten Ten answered, “Well she's our friend! Unlike you, you backstabbing traitor!”
“Call me what you want... It's not like I care....” she said as she left.
“Ugh!” Ten Ten screamed as she kicked her locker. “I hate her!”
“Guys...” Kaya finally said. “It's okay...”
“NO it's not! You've been obsessed with Shino and we know how much you like him!” Temari said. “I don't care if Ryu dating him, tell him how you feel!”
“I can't...” she said. “He won't care anyways... he's dating Ryu, so it's not like it'd make a difference.” She quickly left for home. For the rest of that week, she's been more quieter than usual. Without Ryu, she's usual not as talkative. Then on the Friday Kaya had gotten paired up with Shino for a project.
“...so... what's been going between you and Ryu?” Shino asked Kaya. A small blush appeared as she shook it off and answered, “...I dunno... We got into a little spat... and now...”
“... what about...”
“It's nothing.”
“Well if you two are fighting it must be about something big... it's rare to see you two apart.” he stated. She gave no response. “Well, whether it is or isn't... it shouldn't get in the way of your friendship. Ryu... she really cares about you Kaya...”
“I doubt that... if she did...” she thought.
“Well.... you've got plenty of others still looking out for you.” he said as they finished up. “Hey... are you planning to go to the dance?”
“I dunno...” she sighed. “I kinda do... but I don't have a date.”
“You don't need a date to go...” he answered, “But, I don't think Kiba's got a date. Why don't you go with him?” She shrugged. Then right at lunch, Kiba approached.
“Yo, Kaya. I hear you don't got a date yet... wanna go to Homecoming together?” he smirked with a flirtacious smile.
“Umm...n--”
“She'd love to Kiba!” Ten Ten and Temari answered for her. She grew wide-eyed as he smiled, “Awesome. I'll pick you up at your place.” He ran off as she questioned, “Why'd you do that?!”
“Hello! Ryu might still have a little feelings for Kiba still! You can totally get her back!” they answered. “We are not letting you pass up this opportunity!” She sighed, But-”
“No buts! Just go!”
“But I wanna go with Shino!” she screamed.
“...Kaya...” Ten Ten comforted her. “They only way you and Shino could ever happen...is if Ryu backs off... knowing her... she won't... sorry.”
“Yo, you look hot!” Kiba smiled to Kaya that night. She answered, “Thanks... let's go...” They entered the school as she spotted someone not too far. She turned red as he came over.
“Yo, Shino! Having fun?!” Kiba questioned.
“..eh...” he answered.
“Shino! Let's dance!” Ryu called as they went to the dance floor. Kaya stared off sadly.
“Kaya...” Kiba waved a hand in front of her face.
“Huh?” she shook it off.
“...Do you wanna dance....”
“No, thanks---”
“Of course she will!” Temari and Ten Ten jumped on her and smiled. Kaya groaned and said, “Did you not hear me... I said n-”
“She said yes.” Temari pushed Kiba into her. “Have fun you two!”
“No!” Kaya said annoyed as she growled at her two friends. “I've had it with you two! I already agreed to go to this dance with Kiba because you two made me! You know I didn't want too!” Everyone gather as she yelled at Ten Ten and Temari. “I seriously am annoyed! Stop pairing me up with Kiba! I don't care if he's got a girlfriend! I'm still in love with Shino!!!!” Gasp escaped from everyone's mouth as she covered hers in embarrassment. Shino and Ryu were watching from not too far away. Ryu's serious face grew a smile as she and Shino walked over.
“... I like you too, Kaya...” Shino said as he grasped her hand. A confused look appeared on everyone's face as Ryu yelled, “Alright everybody! Show's over! Get back to the dance!” She grabbed Shino and Kaya and left the dance floor. Kiba followed after.
“Nice going, Kaya...” Ryu smiled. “You actually said it...” She blushed and then asked, “What did you mean... when you said you liked me... What about Ryu?” Shino answered, “Ryu and I...”
“We were never really dating.” Ryu told her. “It was all a lie.”
“WHAT?!” she screamed.
“We only pretended to be going out.” Ryu said.
~~~Flashback~~~
“..hey... Kiba. I'm gonna need you to do me a favor.” Ryu smirked. “Hook me up with Shino.” He gave her a shocked look as he said, “What?! No way! Why in the world would I--” She whacked his head, “Not for real... ugh, never mind. But I am gonna need your help. Come on...” She went back into the gym and approached Shino.
“Hey, do you mind if I walk home with you and Kiba today?” Ryu asked. He answered, “...sure... I guess...”
“Perfect. I'll see you guys in ten minutes.” she said. After practice, the trio went to Kiba's house. She sat down and said, “Okay. This is what's going down... I hang out with you guys and your friends instead of Kaya until the dance next week.”
“...why would you not want to hang out with Kaya...” Shino questioned. Kiba nodded, “Yea, she's your best friend...”
“I know... and the only way I can help her... is to be hated by her...” she said strongly. “And it's okay with me... so can you do this for me?” They nodded as Kiba said, “But it'd help if you told us why Kaya would need help like this...”
“I'll tell you... just not yet...” she said as she turned to Shino. “Not until I know everything I need to now.” A few days later....
“Hey, Shino. Can I have a word with you?” Ryu asked. He nodded as Ryu said, “Kiba, go on without us...” He nodded as Shino wondered, “What's up?” She asked confidently, “Be my boyfriend.” He then said, “No.”
“...thought so... you like Kaya...” she smiled.
“...is that what you wanted to know...” she nodded as she called. “Kiba, I know you're hiding. Get your butt over here.”
“Heh...” he smirked as he came out. “There's no where to hide from you...” She nodded as she said, “Well I'll tell you this, Shino. Kaya's spineless right now. She's such a coward when it comes to love. Every time she hears your name... she gets clumsy. I intend to stop this habit by bring her true feelings out.”
“And that will make her hate you...” Kiba stated. “You intend to make her jealous.” She nodded, “She'll get the courage to tell you her true feelings... you'd like that right, Shino?” He nodded, “Alright. I'll be your boyfriend... but this is just pretend...”
“Of course.” she said. “Now Kiba. You're gonna take Kaya to the dance... make sure she goes.” He pouted, “What's in it for me?”
“We'll go out.” she stated as he lit up. “But just as soon as we hook Shino and Kaya together.”
“Leave it to me... she'll be there.” Kiba smiled.

“You did all that.... for me...” Kaya questioned. She nodded, “You're my best friend.”
“You even got hated by all the other girls....” Ryu nodded again as Kaya pounced on her. She cried, “Thank you... thanks, Ryu....” She hugged her in return and then whacked her head.
“Ow!”
“You do realize you've got Shino waiting...” she smiled. “You two have fun...”
“Ah-hum...” Kiba coughed. Ryu rolled her eyes, “A deal's a deal. Come on, boyfriend.” He gave a look, “Boyfriend....”
“What? If you don't wanna be then tell me now...” she glared when he kissed her. He pulled away, “Let's dance, girlfriend.” He pulled her inside as her face was all red.
“...whoa... that is so not Ryu...” Kaya gasped wide-eyed at what just happened. Then Shino said, “I've never really thought of you as the shy type. I was happy when you said that you liked me in front of the entire school...” She blushed as he kissed her, but she was happy. Finally... with Shino...
