Pairing: Shino X OC (slight Kiba X OC)
Summary: The MVP for the school's volleyball team is the best! Nothing seems to get her out of her focus... except him. Every time she sees him, hears him, or even hears his name, she gets all klutzy and screws up. Will she be able to get out of this habit?
POW!
“Nice! That was beautiful Kaya!” her coach said as she spiked the volleyball. She wiped the sweat off her face. The ball was thrown back to the server as her best friend, Ryu, said, “That was an awesome spike! Keep it up, girl!”
“You too!” she smiled as the ball went over. It came back as Kaya yelled, “I go!”
“Hey! Shino!” Kiba, who was in the stands called to his friend.
“Whoa!” Kaya said as she fell flat on her face. Ryu called, “Kaya! You alright?” She nodded, “Yea... sorry... I fell.”
“Geez, you may be good at volleyball, but you are such a klutz.” she said. “Come on. We should get back to the game.” After gym class, Ryu called, “Yo! Kaya!”
“What's up?” she wondered.
“What's up is what happened in volleyball today.” Ryu told her. “You've got to fix that problem of yours.”
“What problem?” she wondered.
“Don't act stupid...” she stated. “Every time you here hear his name, see him, or hear him, you become all klutzy!”
“Who?” she said. Ryu sighed, “Shino! You dope!” Ryu slapped her head as she said, “Ow! Geez... don't need to resort to violence...” She rubbed her head as they entered class.
“Yo, Ryu!” they heard. Ryu gave a salute and said, “Yo, what up?” Kiba answered, “Nothing. Just wanted to call your name. Strange that you've got that name.”
“What, just cuz I'm a girl I can't have a guy name?” she questioned.
“Naw...” he said. “I think it's kewl... I like the tomboy types....”
“Oh, now you're flirting?” she raised an eyebrow. He smiled, “So you know where this is going?” She nodded, “Yea. And I'm taking the other road out... see ya.” She sat down with Kaya as Kiba smiled as she left.
“See this is how I deal with this kind of thing. That's why I'm not klutz.” she explained Kaya. She nodded and stopped. In shock, she stated, “Wait... you've got a thing for Kiba?!” She gave her a glare and said, “Duh?! Psh... and I thought best friends were suppose to know everything...”
“But, you just totally turned down his offer to go out with him!”
“Dude, you really suck at this girl stuff... and I'm the tomboy...” she said ashamed. “I was playing hard to get with him... I'm trying to give him clues that I like him without making it too obvious.”
“...well my bad...”
“So, now we need to find a way to fix this klutz problem of yours.”
“Why does it need to be fixed?”
“Hello, he's on the yearbook. Meaning he's coming to every game we go to. That leads to you screwing up and us losing the championship!” Ryu said. “I'm determined to win that trophy!” She sighed, “You make a good point...”
“I know... I guess that's why I'm the smart one in our friendship.” she stated. She thought, “Alright... hmm... All I can think of is hooking you up already...”
“...wha??!” she said in shock as she nearly fell outta her chair.
“Kaya! I hope you're focusing!” Kakashi called to her.
“Sorry, Kakashi-sensei.” she said with a blush. Ryu rolled her eyes as the class giggled at her. She stated, “This is another reason we need to fix that problem...”
“I can't date him! He's like... undateable!” she answered in a light whisper. Ryu sighed, “Just because he turns down a bunch of girls doesn't make him undateable. Any guy is dateable...”
“Ryu! Kaya!” Kakashi said.
“Later...” she said as Kaya nodded and they returned to the lesson.
~~~ After the period~~~
“...I can't date him!” Kaya said to Ryu.
“Ugh... you make this so difficult...” she stated. “fine... we need you to stop getting nervous around him... you need to be used to being around him...”
“... Ryu...” she whined.
“Ryu!”someone suddenly jumped on her.
“Ow! What the heck, Kiba?!” she said as she whacked him off. He chuckled, “Hey, we're heading up for lunch? Wanna come with? Kaya, can come too...”
“Why would we go with you?” Ryu said as she gave him a look. He smiled, “Aw, you don't have to act so coldly towards me... I know you like me...” Kaya gave her a look as she laughed, “Me? Like you?”
“Aww, why you trying to fake it...” he said as he hugged her. She quickly pushed him off as she stated, “Faking... you've got to be kidding me...”
“Kiba... are you coming or not?” someone said behind them. Shino was there with Gaara and Shikamaru. Kaya saw Ryu's eyes sparkle as she slapped Kiba's head, “Why are you keeping us? Let's go! Come on Kaya!”
“Oh, now you want to...” Kiba pouted.
“Duh, if I knew, Shino, Shika, and Gaara were coming I would've said yes right away.” she said as she began pulling Kaya.
“..but...but I have something...” Kaya thought.
“No you don't... we finished it remember?” Ryu glared at her. She sighed as they had lunch together. Just like a typical normal day. Kiba flirting with Ryu, Ryu completely burning him and ignoring him, and Shino and Kaya being quiet the entire time.
“Hey, we'll be right back. Nature calls.” Shika said as he and Gaara headed out. Then Kaya saw that evil sparkle in Ryu's eyes again. She turned to Kiba, “Hey, I totally forgot something in the class. I'll be back Kaya... Let's go, Kiba!” She quickly pulled him up by his collar as he said, “Hey—Whoa!” They were gone before Kaya could even call for her. She and Shino were alone.
“...umm...uh...”
“Hey... do you mind if I interview you for the yearbook...” Shino asked. “I was planning on asking Kiba to ask Ryu, but since you're here I might as well.” She blushed slightly, “..uh- yea, sure...” He nodded and brought out a tape recorder. The recording button glowed as he said, “What sport are in currently apart of?”
“Volleyball.”
“Are you preparing for a championship? How do you practice?”
“Yea... we are having a championship... we practice everyday after school for an hour. We do drills and practice games against each other...” she said as she fidget with her clothes. He thought, “According to other members on the team, you're the star player. What are your secrets?”
“... star player... oh, um well...” she thought. “I … umm, stay focused on the ball and always go for it... I also call the ball so the team isn't running into each other.”
“...that's it. Thank you...” Shino said. She nodded. They sat in silence again as Gaara and Shikamaru came back. Shika asked, “Hey... where's Ryu and Kiba? They better not be making—” His face suddenly went smack onto the table as Ryu's hand was on the back of his head.
“What kind of crap were you saying about me...” she glared at Shika as he got up.
“...nothing... aww... that hurt...”
“Hu-huh at least you weren't a dog on a leash.” Kiba said. “She totally choked me with my own collar.”
“Just what you deserve, dog boy.” she told him. He laughed, “Haha. Touche.”
